In a metropolis of greater than 100 seashores, swimming and browsing are a part of Sydney’s lifeblood. However 4 shark bites in New South Wales in 48 hours – three of which had been in Sydney – have rattled even a number of the metropolis’s most seasoned ocean customers.
On Sunday afternoon, a 12-year-old boy was left combating for his life after being bitten on a harbour beach in Vaucluse in Sydney’s east. On Monday morning, an 11-year-old’s surfboard was bitten multiple times at Dee Why within the metropolis’s north, whereas that afternoon, a 27-year-old man was bitten while surfing in Manly, lower than 5km away.
“Sydneysiders are ingrained with browsing and seashore actions as a part of their life and it does really feel like a chunk of you will get stripped away when one thing like this occurs,” says Matt Chojnacki, a lifelong Sydney surfer.
After three assaults in fast succession, the large wave surfer and coach determined to go away town to seek out what he hoped could be much less dangerous waves to the north. On the street on Tuesday morning, he heard information of the fourth assault on a seashore lower than 15km from his vacation spot – a 39-year-old man was bitten at Point Plomer on the state’s mid-north coast, about 5 hours north of Sydney.
