El condado de Miami-Dade, en Florida, ha pasado a tener más republicanos registrados que demócratas, por primera vez en la historia.

Los republicanos registrados ahora suman 464,370 votantes, lo que representa el 34% del electorado del condado, mientras que los demócratas registrados suman 440,790 votantes, lo que equivale al 32,27%.

Los votantes registrados como “otros” representan 460,783 votantes, o el 33,73%.

Las cifras actualizadas se publicaron después de que el condado finalizara el mantenimiento del padrón electoral de años anteriores. Según Michael Pruser, director de ciencia de datos de datos del portal de información electoral Resolution Desk HQ (DDHQ, por sus siglas en inglés), el condado eliminó a 172,747 votantes de sus registros activos.

De acuerdo con la ley de Florida, los votantes que no han participado en elecciones recientes, quienes no han actualizado su información electoral o quienes no respondieron a los correos electorales oficiales pueden ser designados como inactivos. Si estos votantes permanecen inactivos durante dos elecciones generales federales consecutivas y no actualizan su estado, pueden ser eliminados del padrón electoral activo.

Si bien el condado de Miami-Dade ha tenido históricamente una tendencia demócrata, ya había indicios de un cambio de rumbo en los últimos años, ya que la Junta de Comisionados del Condado de la ciudad de Hialeah votó previamente por 9 a 1 para aprobar el cambio de nombre de un tramo de seis kilómetros de la avenida Palm a la “la avenida presidente Donald J. Trump” el año pasado.
