Armed males killed a Honduran mayor standing for reelection within the violence-wracked Central American nation, though the homicide was not believed to be politically motivated, police stated Thursday.
Francisco Martinez, mayor of the northwestern municipality of San Isidro, was taken by gunmen from a motel within the metropolis of Siguatepeque on Wednesday night time and shot exterior, a police statement said, including that Martinez was “allegedly consuming alcohol” when he was kidnapped.
