The Italian minikstry of tradition, which initially gave its blessing to a live performance by the banned Russian conductor, has now modified its tune after protests from the EU and elsewhere.
The ministry at this time says: ‘The live performance dangers sending the fallacious message.’
MEP Pina Picierno has posted:
‘The Gergiev live performance scheduled for July 27 have to be cancelled additionally as a result of it violates the moral regulation of @reggiadicaserta, which deems initiatives or hospitality of people who violate the UN 2030 Agenda incompatible, condemns all types of violence, torture, arms and cash trafficking, and requires common entry to truthful justice.
‘Values which are evidently light-years away from Gergiev and the regime he sponsors, endorses, and is complicit with.
‘The Reggia di Caserta is a UNESCO website; how constant is it to grant such a stage to supporters of those that are destroying different protected websites, just like the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv (broken in June by a Russian assault) and the historic middle of Odessa, underneath indiscriminate assault for the previous three years.
‘I attraction to the Italian Authorities and specifically to the Minister of Tradition, Alessandro Giuli, to make sure that our cultural system doesn’t fall sufferer to an act of propaganda and servility towards Vladimir Putin’s regime.’
