Tanzania’s president, Tundu Lissu, has been in jail since April on expenses of treason — an offence that might carry the loss of life penalty. This week, his trial was postponed for the fourth time. The choice comes simply three months forward of the nation’s presidential election. Because the vote approaches, issues over political repression are mounting, resonating past Tanzania’s borders.
