The Workplace of Particular Counsel (OSC) has launched a proper investigation into former particular counsel Jack Smith.

The OSC opened an investigation into Smith following a letter from Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) that accuses Smith of utilizing his place to politically goal President Donald Trump through the 2024 election.

Smith, who was appointed by Legal professional Basic Merrick Garland beneath former President Joe Biden, resigned from his function on the Division of Justice in January, shortly after Trump returned to workplace.

In his letter to the OSC earlier this week, Cotton alleged that Smith’s conduct constituted a misuse of public workplace to intervene with an election.

“Jack Smith’s authorized actions have been nothing greater than a software for the Biden and Harris campaigns. This isn’t simply unethical, it is extremely probably unlawful marketing campaign exercise from a public workplace,” Cotton stated.

Cotton claimed Smith’s authorized selections had no respectable foundation outdoors of trying to affect the result of the election.

“I admire the Workplace of Particular Counsel taking this significantly and launching an investigation into Jack Smith’s conduct. Nobody is above the regulation,” he wrote.
