Issued through the top of the Civil Conflict, the Emancipation Proclamation signaled a transformative shift within the Union’s objectives. Now not only a battle to protect the nation, the conflict turned an ethical campaign to finish slavery. Whereas the proclamation initially freed enslaved people solely in Accomplice states, it set the tone for nationwide abolition and gave enslaved African People hope for a greater future.
