It’s an enormous week for artwork in Nigeria. Lagos hosts the Up to date Honest this weekend, whereas Benin Metropolis prepares for the opening of the long-awaited Museum of West African Artwork. The multi-million-euro mission, backed by France, Germany, the Getty Basis, and the British Museum, was meant to deal with the famed Benin Bronzes, looted by British forces in 1897 – however that plan has sparked controversy. Marie-Cécile Zinsou, president of the Zinsou Basis, explains why.
