President Donald Trump introduced Monday the USA is constructing two battleships for its Navy, which he stated would be the largest battleships “within the historical past of the world.”
Trump made the announcement alongside Secretary of Conflict Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of the Navy John Phalen, at his luxurious Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Seaside, Florida, noting the ships can be a part of the forthcoming “Golden Fleet.”
“As commander-in-chief, it’s my nice honor to announce that I’ve accepted a plan for the Navy to start the development of two model new, very giant–the most important we’ve ever constructed–battleships,” Trump stated.
The final U.S. battleship to finish preliminary building was the Iowa-class USS Missouri in 1944, which was decommissioned in 1992.
“We had huge battleships. These are larger… They’ll be 100 instances the power, the ability, and there’s by no means been something like these ships,” he added. “These have been beneath design consideration for a very long time, and it began with me in my first time period.”
A rendering of a ship on show in the course of the announcement featured the title “USS Defiant.”
Trump stated the forthcoming ships can be “100 instances extra highly effective than any battleship ever constructed.”
