Poland scrambled jet fighters on Christmas Day to intercept a Russian reconnaissance aircraft working close to Polish airspace. The Russian aircraft was safely escorted away from Poland.
“This morning, over the worldwide waters of the Baltic Sea, Polish fighter jets intercepted, visually recognized, and escorted from their space of duty a Russian reconnaissance plane flying close to the borders of Polish airspace,” the Polish navy mentioned on Thursday.
The Polish assertion added that a number of objects entered Polish airspace from the route of Belarus on Christmas Eve.
“After detailed evaluation, it was decided that these have been almost certainly smuggling balloons, transferring in accordance with the wind route and velocity,” the assertion mentioned, including {that a} portion of northern Poland’s airspace was quickly closed to civilian site visitors within the pursuits of security.
