The European Union on Saturday known as for Somalia’s territorial integrity to be upheld after Israel grew to become the first country to formally acknowledge the breakaway area of Somaliland as an impartial state.
Israel’s transfer, a day earlier, has been denounced internationally, with many African and Center East nations insisting that Somalia’s borders cannot be modified unilaterally.
What did the EU say?
EU overseas affairs spokesman Anouar El Anouni stated the bloc “reaffirms the significance of respecting the unity, the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.”
“That is key for the peace and stability of your complete Horn of Africa area,” the spokesman stated in a statement.
“The EU encourages significant dialogue between Somaliland and the Federal Authorities of Somalia to resolve long-standing variations,” El Anouni added.
