A “cosmic clock” has been found in tiny zircon crystals by scientists that may measure the formation and erosion of landscapes in Australia over tens of millions of years. Cosmic rays, that are charged particles from house, consistently bombard the Earth’s floor, producing isotopes. The scientists calculated the time every sand grain spent on the floor by vaporising the grains and analysing the quantity of cosmogenic krypton fuel trapped in them.
