Parker Sutherland, a soccer participant on the College of Northern Iowa (UNI), died on Saturday morning on the age of 18, the college introduced.
In a press launch, UNI Director of Athletics Megan Franklin described it as a “heartbreaking day” for the college. Sutherland was described as embracing “the chance to play Panther soccer and characterize the College via sport.”
Sutherland was described as having introduced a “vivid gentle” to the soccer group.
“It’s a heartbreaking day for our Panther Athletics household with the passing of our Parker Sutherland,” Franklin mentioned. “He embraced the chance to play Panther soccer and characterize the College via sport. We’re devastated – simply devastated.”
Sutherland, who was described as an “Iowa native,” had “appeared in 4 video games as a decent finish throughout his freshman season with the Panthers in 2025,” based on the press launch.
In his senior 12 months at Iowa Metropolis Excessive Faculty, Sutherland “was a second-team all-state performer” and likewise “excelled” in basketball and baseball, based on the press launch.
UNI head coach Todd Stepsis expressed that Sutherland “embodied every thing the college appears to be like for in a UNI Soccer Panther.”
