Outside, it’s an overcast and blustery February day in Kent – hardly the best circumstances for rising tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. But inside the big glasshouses run by grower Thanet Earth, the local weather has been optimised to a moist 20C, excellent for the regimented rows of small pepper vegetation poking out of raised trays.
