For years, official Chinese language rhetoric on Iran invoked their shared historic standing as grand civilisations which have struggled in opposition to western aggression. Bilateral ties date again greater than half a century. In 2021, they signed a complete strategic settlement pledging $400bn of Chinese language funding. And China’s economic system is already flagging; it has simply set its lowest progress goal since 1991, underlining the significance of stability for Beijing.
