Peter Magyar, as soon as a staunch loyalist of Hungary’s prime minister Viktor Orban, has ended his mentor’s 16-year rule after his Tisza social gathering won Sunday’s parliamentary election by a landslide.
With votes in 97.35 p.c of precincts counted, Magyar’s centre-right social gathering has secured 138 seats within the 199-seat parliament and 53.6 p.c of the vote. Orban’s Christian nationalist Fidesz social gathering received 55 seats with 37.8 p.c of the votes, in accordance with official outcomes.
