In Syria, destiny of French households in IS group camps stays unsure

Six years after the autumn of the Islamic State group’s self-proclaimed caliphate, 1000’s of girls and kids linked to IS group fighters stay detained in camps throughout northeastern Syria. Managed by Kurdish authorities since 2019, these detainees fall below a non-state jurisdiction — one that can’t strive or extradite them, and the place worldwide humanitarian legislation presents little safety. This authorized limbo may now shift with the autumn of the Assad regime. The brand new authorities in Damascus is anticipated to take management over the camps. Kurdish officers — and the households themselves, together with dozens of French nationals — are ready anxiously to see what the long run holds.
