Relations between France and Algeria have reached a brand new low, following a letter written by Emmanuel Macron to his Prime Minister. In it, he instructs François Bayrou to take a more durable stance towards France’s former colony, as a dispute drags on over two French nationals imprisoned in Algeria and visa exemptions for Algerian diplomats. Algiers has responded by accusing Paris of making an attempt to “exonerate” itself from any blame.
