The chapter was formally chartered on Oct. 18.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has chartered its first-ever chapter in Puerto Rico, marking the sorority’s debut in a Latin American area the place Spanish is the first language.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, 25 sorority members shaped the brand new Alpha Delta Nu Omega chapter throughout the group’s Worldwide Area, with girls established throughout fields corresponding to medication, enterprise, schooling, regulation, and extra, Watch the Yard reported. The constitution marks a milestone after two years of service and group work for households based in Puerto Rico’s Loíza group, identified for its wealthy Afro-Puerto Rican tradition and heritage. “
“We’re thrilled to deliver Alpha Kappa Alpha to Puerto Rico,” Carrie J. Clark, worldwide regional director, mentioned in a press release. “These girls are devoted to Puerto Rico and Loíza. They’ve already made a big affect on girls, kids, and households on the island, and that work will proceed and develop within the years to return.”
The members have been actively supporting the group by initiatives that help households in disaster, ship toys to kids in home violence shelters, present well being screenings for seniors, and provide profession and academic sources to youth, girls, and people in want. With the institution of the Alpha Delta Nu Omega chapter, the sorority continues the worldwide legacy of the primary Greek-letter group based by African American girls, now current in 14 nations and territories.
The chapter’s first service venture will contain assembling Childhood Starvation Energy Packs (AKA CHIPPTM) weekend meals for college kids and hurricane preparedness kits, supporting the Worldwide Area’s broader initiatives.
