California is making an attempt to punish social media platforms for aiding and abetting the First Modification. Senate Invoice 771, presently awaiting Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signature, would “impose significant penalties on social media platforms” that permit customers to publish “hate speech,” per a legislative evaluation from the state’s Senate Judiciary Committee.
