UK borrowing jumps to £18bn in August
Newsflash: Britain’s authorities borrowing soared in August, as spending rose quicker than tax receipts, including to the challenges dealing with Rachel Reeves as she attracts up the autumn price range.
Public sector web borrowing excluding public sector banks jumped to £18bn in August 2025. This was £3.5bn greater than in August 2024 and the best August borrowing for 5 years.
