A cloud of uncertainty hung Friday over the scheduled begin of talks in Pakistan between the US and Iran, with no announcement but on the arrival of negotiators and either side accusing the opposite of failing to correctly implement a fragile ceasefire. US President Donald Trump has voiced displeasure at Iran’s dealing with of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which was meant to be reopened underneath the deal, whereas Tehran has reacted angrily to Israeli assaults in Lebanon, insisting that it too falls underneath the settlement — one thing Washington disputes. Islamabad was nonetheless urgent forward with its preparations for the high-stakes talks.
