In January 2024, Claire Shipman, who served because the chair of Columbia College’s board of trustees earlier than she grew to become the appearing president of Columbia College, minimized the open antisemitism on the college, tried to maintain a pro-Israel member of the board unaware of the college’s negotiations with anti-Israel demonstrators, and tried to take away that member of the board and exchange her with an Arab one.
