You always remember your first Metallic Gear – but there’s one title in Konami’s legendary stealth collection that’s universally heralded as its pinnacle: 2004’s Snake Eater. This prequel-cum-threequel was one thing of a reset. Initially supposed as a PS3 sport because of its sheer technological ambition, however then launched on PS2, author and director Hideo Kojima yearned to take gravelly voiced protagonist Stable Snake away from dimly lit army bases and have him slither open air. That includes attempting to find meals and snapping damaged bones again into place, Snake Eater felt extra grounded and immersive than any of its 2000s PlayStation friends.
