In a public assertion, Kent stated he "can't in good conscience help the continued battle," arguing that Iran posed no imminent menace and that the battle marked a break from the administration’s prior method to avoiding extended wars within the Middle East .

A senior administration official beforehand informed Fox Information Digital that Kent was a "identified leaker" who had been reduce out of intelligence briefings months earlier than his resignation.
