The primary observance of what got here to be often known as Memorial Day was on Might 30, 1868, when a Civil Struggle common called on Americans to commemorate the sacrifices of Union troopers. It was initially referred to as Ornament Day, for the apply of adorning graves with wreaths and flags. And there have been so many graves — more than 300,000 men had died on the Union side, and almost as many for the Confederacy. In whole, more died on both sides of the Civil War than in each different US battle via the Korean Struggle, mixed.
