A Gaza physician and hospital director who criticized Israel in two separate New York Instances op-eds has been revealed to be a Hamas colonel.
Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya is a Palestinian pediatrician and the director of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya. The IDF arrested him on December 27, 2024, and he has since been held in an Israeli jail.
Safiya’s arrest sparked scores of worldwide campaigns calling for his launch. Amnesty Worldwide, for instance, has launched a marketing campaign for his unconditional launch by which it refers to him as an “arbitrarily detained Palestinian well being employee.”
A number of different activist teams have deemed him “the hero” of Gaza.
Final month, Safiya was even granted “honorary citizenship” by town of Lyon, France. Town stated, “Safiya is among the main figures in Gaza’s well being system and embodies the braveness of healthcare staff within the face of the unspeakable.”
Proof of Safiya’s Hamas involvement
Following Lyon’s announcement, a senior researcher at NGO Monitor – Vincent Chebat – started researching Safiya.
He quickly found a 2016 picture of the physician in his Hamas uniform “at a gathering of Hamas elites, together with Gen. Abu Obaida al-Jarrah, the director of Army Medical Providers Saeed Saoudi, and Nationwide Safety Forces commander Col. Naeem al-Ghoul.”
