Last weekend, Alla Shyrshonkova bought on the 62 bus on a journey to her cottage near the Ukrainian city of Sumy. It was a heat spring day. “I assumed I’d sit with mates, have some tea. Birds had been singing. The climate was stunning. It was so good,” she recalled.
“The bus was packed. There wasn’t a single free seat. Individuals had been standing. Some had been going to church for Palm Sunday. There have been households with kids.”
