Hanging from a rope, a harness or a hoop, Iranian ladies are flocking to gyms to carry out aerial dance and sharing movies of their routines on social media. Others are quietly practising one other type of self-expression – pole-dancing – in underground venues hidden from Iran’s safety forces. In a theocracy the place ladies are banned from driving motorbikes, singing or dancing in public or showing outdoors and not using a state-mandated hijab, aerial dance and pole dancing are revolutionary acts.
