Lotus Lantern Competition attracts hundreds in Seoul to have fun Buddha’s birthday

1000’s of South Koreans crammed the streets of Seoul on Saturday for the annual Yeon Deung Hoe competition, celebrating Buddha’s upcoming birthday. Regardless of the rain, organisers anticipated round 50,000 attendees, with the night parade that includes floats carried or rolled by way of the town centre. The competition, which started over 1,000 years in the past, was recognised as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2020 and promotes the teachings of Buddhism worldwide.
