France has appointed Christophe Leribault as the brand new head of the Louvre, bringing within the director of the Palace of Versailles to show around the globe’s most visited museum after a humiliating jewellery heist and workers strikes.
Leribault, who was chosen by the French president, Emmanuel Macron, will succeed Laurence des Vehicles, who resigned on Tuesday. Des Vehicles had confronted intense criticism since burglars made off in October with jewels value an estimated $102m, exposing obvious safety gaps on the museum. The jewels are nonetheless lacking.
