Within the close to future, NASA plans to ship a mission from Alaska to discover the electrical currents behind the aurora, additionally known as the northern lights, aurora borealis. This mission, named the Geophysical Non-Equilibrium Ionospheric System Science (GNEISS), can be performed with the assistance of two rockets and a way just like a CT scan. With a launch date set for early February 2026, the mission will come from Poker Flat in Alaska.
