Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom demanded President Donald Trump rescind his deployment of the Nationwide Guard to Los Angeles, denouncing it as “illegal” and a violation of state sovereignty.
The governor launched a letter from Authorized Affairs Secretary David Sapp to Secretary of Protection Pete Hegseth on Sunday, charging that the deployment of Nationwide Guard troops got here with out coordination with California officers.
“There may be at present no want for the Nationwide Guard to be deployed in Los Angeles, and to take action on this illegal method and for such a prolonged interval is a severe breach of state sovereignty that appears deliberately designed to inflame the scenario whereas concurrently depriving the state from deploying these personnel and assets the place they’re really required,” the letter stated.

In a submit on X, Newsom accused President Trump of escalating the issue in Los Angeles.
“I’ve formally requested the Trump Administration rescind their illegal deployment of troops in Los Angeles county and return them to my command,” wrote Newsom. “We didn’t have an issue till Trump bought concerned.
