The late Christopher Hitchens had no scarcity of objections to Christianity. However he reserved particular contempt for hell — a doctrine he believed decreased religion to concern and the divine to a “celestial dictatorship.” A God prepared to resort to such primitive extortion was hardly worthy of man’s admiration, not to mention worship.
