Submit-Assad Syria: Sectarian divides and the battle for unity

The autumn of Bashar al-Assad final December didn’t erase the deep-rooted prejudices inside Syrian society. Identification and political divisions stay vivid, and since January, sectarian clashes have been rising. In a rustic as fragmented as Syria, outdated grudges are simmering, with many taking justice into their very own palms – pushed by a thirst for revenge towards these they view as traitors or inner enemies. Amid this escalating violence, the authorities insist they’re dedicated to holding these accountable accountable. In the meantime, civil society is doing what it could to maintain hope alive by calling for dialogue and pushing for nationwide unity. Our correspondent in Syria, Jenna Le Bras, reviews.
