Public sale of Nazi loss of life camp artefacts cancelled, Poland's DPM says

[ad_1] A deliberate public sale in Germany of artefacts from prisoners of Nazi focus camps has been cancelled following a public outcry, Poland's Deputy Prime Minister has stated.

On Sunday, Radoslaw Sikorski thanked his German counterpart Johann Wadephul for agreeing "such a scandal should be prevented".

A Holocaust survivors' group and politicians had earlier known as for German public sale home Felzmann to cancel the sale in Neuss, which was reportedly scheduled for Monday.

Amongst greater than 600 gadgets on the market was a letter from an Auschwitz prisoner and a medical analysis concerning the pressured sterilisation of a prisoner from the Dachau focus camp, German media stories.

"Respect for victims requires the dignity of silence, not the din of commerce," Sikorski said in post on X .

In response to stories, the public sale itemizing on the Auktionshaus Felzmann web site had been eliminated by mid-afternoon on Sunday.

The BBC has contacted the public sale home for remark.

"Paperwork or skilled stories by Nazi perpetrators that have been supplied on the public sale will not be for personal collections," German State Minister for Tradition Wolfram Weimer instructed German information company DPA.

Steps must be taken to stop future auctions, he added.

"For victims of Nazi persecution and Holocaust survivors, this public sale is a cynical and shameless endeavor that leaves them outraged and speechless", Christoph Heubner, an government vice-president of the Worldwide Auschwitz Committee (IAC), stated.

Poland's tradition minister Marta Cienkowska stated her ministry would examine the provenance of the artefacts to find out whether or not any must be returned to Poland.

Auschwitz was on the centre of the Nazi marketing campaign to eradicate Europe's Jewish inhabitants, and nearly a million of those that died on the web site have been Jews.
