In the early 00s, offbeat sports activities video games have been king. From the slam-dunking shenanigans of NBA Avenue to Mario Strikers’ show-stopping absurdity, as soon as severe competitions have been reimagined as splendidly foolish grudge matches. But because the dwell service period arrived, sport sims turned much less about pulse-pumping performs, and extra about accumulating more and more costly digital buying and selling playing cards.
Enter Rematch, a refreshingly action-packed reimagining of the attractive sport. Channelling the scrappy thrills of Powerleague five-a-side, Rematch sidelines Fifa’s team-focused ways to place you within the studded boots of a single participant. With controls like a third-person motion sport, developer Sloclap channels its martial arts-heavy expertise with earlier titles Sifu and Absolver into creating weighty, skill-driven soccer. It’s splendidly agile, quick and livid stuff. Passes are delivered manually, photographs are curled within the warmth of the second, and goalies come sprinting down the midway line like an Oliver Kahn possessed. Gratuitous slide tackles and bicycle kicks are the order of the day, and as my teammates and I rating our respective half-line screamers, I can’t cease grinning.
