Russia is scaling up its manufacturing of Oreshnik intermediate-range hypersonic missiles, which Russian President Vladimir Putin beforehand put forward as a possible duel contender against US missile defense systems.
Putin informed a graduating class of navy cadets on Monday that Russia is accelerating manufacturing of the Oreshnik missile, which was first used in opposition to Ukraine in November.
“Serial manufacturing of the most recent Oreshnik medium-range missile system is beneath approach,” stated Putin within the televised deal with, per Reuters.
With a variety of as much as about 3,415 miles, the Oreshnik is able to reaching targets throughout Europe and even the western United States.
Putin has stated that the missile is almost unattainable to intercept and may carry a harmful power corresponding to that of a nuclear weapon.
After the Oreshnik was used to strike Ukraine’s Dnipro area in November, Putin stated there have been “at the moment no methods of counteracting this weapon,” per the BBC.
Putin has beforehand made claims about how unstoppable sure Russian missiles are, only to see them downed in combat a short while later.
