Viola Fletcher was 7 years outdated when the airplanes got here. It was Could 31, 1921, in Tulsa’s Greenwood neighborhood, a thriving Black enclave often called Black Wall Avenue. White mobs, fueled by envy and racial hatred, descended with weapons and torches. They killed as much as 300 folks, torched greater than 1,200 houses and companies, and left a group in ruins.
