President Donald Trump has a “hope” for his Federal Communications Fee: that the company will punish CBS for airing “60 Minutes” studies he doesn’t like.
Apparently angered by Sunday evening’s “60 Minutes” telecast, Trump wrote on Reality Social about his ongoing authorized battle with CBS and its mum or dad firm, Paramount World, which is awaiting FCC approval to merge with Skydance Media.
Trump name-checked the person he promoted to chair the FCC, Brendan Carr, whom he known as “Extremely Revered.” He mentioned hopefully Carr “will impose the utmost fines and punishment, which is substantial, for his or her illegal and unlawful conduct.”
There isn’t any proof of unlawful conduct by CBS.
And there’s comparatively little that Carr can do to impose “punishment,” although the FCC’s delay in approving Paramount’s merger has already created uncertainty on the firm.
Sunday evening’s submit is the newest instance of Trump encouraging his appointees to apply government pressure against his critics. In current months, Carr has flaunted his MAGA credentials and launched FCC investigations of a number of media retailers Trump has derided, including ABC and NBC. Carr was photographed final week carrying a gold pin with a silhouette of Trump’s head.
Carr didn’t reply to CNN’s request for remark about Trump’s Reality Social submit.
