US envoy Steve Witkoff held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin within the Kremlin on Wednesday, two days earlier than the expiry of a deadline set by President Donald Trump for Russia to comply with peace in Ukraine or face new sanctions. Witkoff flew to Moscow on a last-minute mission to hunt a breakthrough within the 3-1/2-year warfare that started with Russia’s full-scale invasion.
