Within the Thirties, a radical conservative faction virtually pushed Finland into full authoritarianism. Known as the Lapua motion, it was a far-right group of Finns who sought to overthrow the republic, marginalize communists, and set up an authoritarian authorities. They managed to disrupt Finland’s political order by threats of violence and symbolic kidnappings, by which they’d seize political rivals and drive them to the Soviet border.
