Police and younger anti-government protesters clashed within the Peruvian capital, Lima, over the weekend.

A rights group stated at the least 18 protesters had been injured in protests held on Saturday and Sunday, dubbed "Gen Z march" by the organisers. A police officer suffered burns, officers stated.

Teams of younger folks, primarily underneath 30 years of age, have been joined by bus and taxi drivers and marched in the direction of Congress to precise their anger over corruption scandals and rising insecurity.

The protests first erupted on Saturday 20 September, triggered by a pension reform handed earlier this month underneath which younger folks might be required to pay into a personal pension fund.

However human rights group CNDDHH stated police had overreacted of their response.
