When you’ve ever signed up for an app after which spent the subsequent 5 minutes looking for a six-digit code buried in your inbox, you understand how painful the method is. I particularly despise the magic sign-up hyperlink that web sites ship, as they generally fail to work if my default browser isn’t Google Chrome.
